HK artist Alvin Mak creates the series “Ink”, a collection of abstract, Chinese ink paintings. These contemporary artworks are created from original paintings, hand-drawn textures and ink marks. I use traditional ink painting techniques such as dry brush, wet ink on wet paper. I also use modern forms of mark-making such as creating textures with crumpled paper, unconventional objects and hand made tools for painting.
My paintings are digitally composed and then reproduced as fine art prints on either paper or canvas. This process of working allows me to be creative and also design and customise to specific art briefs. The size can be tailored but also the colours and to an extent the composition as well. I am able to make art which is subtle and muted. As well as energetic and bright. So my fine art prints will have a certain mood and accent the ambience in an interior setting.
I find inspiration in the movement and energy of calligraphy, minimalism and the organic forms of scholar rocks. This series includes the classic black and white ink art as well as modern and colourful compositions.
