We are the appointed art consultant for the Royal Plaza Hotel art project in Mongkok, Hong Kong. It is a hotel owned by the property developers Sun Hung Kai Properties. As part of our art consultancy services, we propose and create an art program tailored to their hotel. The work includes initial artwork proposals, budget and project management. As well as art procurement, art production, logistics, and final artwork placement. There is a main style for the hotel and as the art consultant, we take care to customise the artwork to each space. But also to have a general overview of the art program to ensure a cohesive story and experience for the guests.
We work with Hirsch Bedner Associates to establish the art direction. They are an interior design company with offices worldwide. The art intent is the first series of discussions we have with the design team. To understand the interior styling and vision is important. The interior design is retro-modern and the art would balance this design aesthetic. Our hotel art and sculptures are in the main lobby and executive lounge. Also the ballroom, restaurants and public areas. As well as the hotel guest rooms, suites, corridors and lift lobbies.
The art for the main lobby and public areas are large art pieces. They create a statement and set the tone for the interior. Whereas, for guestrooms and suites, we place smaller framed art prints. As well as art objects and artefacts which create a homely feel in the hotel rooms. For food and beverage, they often have their own theme and design. The art for restaurants and bars may reflect the cuisine and culture. We propose art which meets the projects practical requirements. But with equal importance, we propose art which is tailor-made for each project. Art which enhances the interior and creates the intended ambience.
We are a studio of artists with art consultancy and project experience. So we can achieve a discussion about both the creative and practical needs for the project. We propose art and sculptures for the hotel which meet the design brief. But we also manage the art budget and schedule. As a result, we can have a smooth collaboration from concept stage to final art installation.
