We collaborated with local property developer Sun Hung Kai Properties on their hotel art project. As the art consultant, we provide art consultancy services and create a tailored art program for their hotel art and decor requirements. This includes initial artwork proposals, project management, art procurement, logistics, and final artwork placement.
The Royal Plaza Hotel is situated in Mongkok, in the heart of Kowloon. It is a deluxe hotel with a modern, retro design. Working alongside Hirsch Bedner Associates, a Hong Kong interior design firm, we work closely with their design team to develop an art direction. As a result, our design brief introduces modern art pieces to balance the interior design. We are both art consultant and artists so a discussion about creative and practical needs is easily reached. As a result, a smooth collaboration is achieved from the concept stage to final art installation. We take care to customise each artwork to best enrich the space. Our art and sculptures feature in the main lobby, public areas, and restaurants. As well as the hotel guest rooms, suites, corridors and lift lobbies.
Alvin Mak’s “Travel by Light” is a large-scale painting displayed in the VIP check-in at the hotel lobby. This abstract artwork is painted in many layers to create the subtle merging and overlapping of colours. The gentle movements within this art piece add a quiet energy to the interior. This artistic styling set the tone for the hotel decor. The artworks add highlights of colour and a sense of energy throughout the hotel. The club lounge features two large abstract fine art prints on canvas which flank each side of the room. There is also a collection of sculptures and artifacts placed on shelves to create a sense of homeliness. Colourful, abstract photography from our “Travel by Light” series are placed in the hotel rooms. Our contemporary flower photography from the “Bloom” series are printed large scale and installed in the hotel suites.
